A komainu is a great guardian beast found within Japan.
They are said to be both lion and dog, and are most distinguishable by the curled flame-like fur adoring their legs, paws, tail and mane.
They are proud and fierce creatures, easily able to ward of evil spirits with simply their presence alone.
Statures built to honor them and request their protection are placed in front of shrines or within the most inner sanctum of said shrines, but can also be found in front of temples, homes belonging to noble families or in front of private residences.
My brother is a werewolf that is mainly shiba-like in build and appearance, but exhibits the flame-like fur of the komainu.
