Character Information: VWDQ LV QRW ZKDW KH VHHPV
Personality:
Who exactly this 'Mister of Mystery' is can be a bit of a mystery in itself. Stan is known as many different things to many different people. To tourists he's a charming and charismatic showman. The locals know him as the area shyster. However, to his great niece and nephew, he's a money frugal grump with the face of a troll and heart of a lion.

Stan admits to his niece and nephew that he has little to no regard for other people. In the off chance he does, it's commonly because he requires something from them. Whether he has to cheat, steal, or lie to obtain what he wants, Stan's determination has no moral boundaries. He is also an exceptionally skilled liar, though often quite tactless. Stan takes great pleasure from the misfortune of others, partaking in ridicule, and scaring people. He's cynical, crass, and mannerless. According to Stan, just saying 'please' gives him a burning sensation.

These seem the most predominate qualities to Stan but like most thing in Gravity falls, Stan is not what he seems. Behind his rough exterior, Stan is a man who enjoys sitting around the house in his boxers, watching the black and white period piece old lady boring movie channel and spending time with his great niece and nephew. Over the course of the summer, Stan has grown rather fond of them, finding love somewhere in his cold, dark and empty heart. As careless as he is to allow the twins to wander unsupervised, he truly tries to protect and provide for them. Stan has even proven to put their needs before his own, though perhaps a little reluctant. Change is hard, especially after years of looking out for his own interests. With the exception of his employee’s at the Shack, Stan has spent at least thirty years alone. And while he tries, it's obvious that he knows nothing when it comes to taking care of kids.

There's not a lot Stan wouldn't do for his niece - even if he has to leap onto a pterodactyl and punch it in the face. He displays a clear favouritism for her, allowing her to get away with a lot more than her brother. He never asks for her help but finds himself accepting her advice from dating to flash-makeovers. He might not care for brightly coloured men or bedazzled clothes, but somehow he connects with Mabel. She's persuasive and has the workings to be a great salesman. He knows she can hold her own - she already cheats better than him at cards.

As for his nephew, Stan has a habit of being tougher on Dipper. This is only because he believes that it will ultimately benefit the boy. He remarks that he sees a lot of himself in Dipper; they're both stubborn and in the pursuit of knowledge put those they care about in danger. He wants to keep Dipper away from the paranormal but also hopes to build the boys confidence over the summer. He wants to toughen him up, much like his own father had through boxing lessons. That way when the world fights, Dipper will fight back.

As a man with about as many secrets as he has wrinkles, Stan is not terribly open about his past. He speaks seldom about himself and when he does it is only to those he truly confides in. The Mystery Shack holds many sealed off rooms and secret passages, most which he appears uncomfortable to see upon their unexpected discovery. Of these hidden rooms, the greatest lies hidden behind a vending machine in the gift shop. It leads deep beneath the Mystery Shack and harbours a mysterious machine that allows passage to alternate dimensions. After thirty years of searching, Stan discovers the three journals he requires to operate the portal, one of which having fallen into possession of his nephew.

Much to Dipper's frustration, Stan rarely acknowledges the paranormal. He is well aware of its presence in Gravity Falls but often shrugs it off or displays annoyance when encountered by it. Even when presented with the final journal he requires by Dipper, something he spent years in search of, he claims the book to be simply nonsense and too boring to finish reading. He goes so far as to photocopy his nephews journal just so he can return it to him to avoid Dipper's suspicion.
